Wood selection is a critical part of what makes COBB & Co. distinct. At COBB & Co. we have sourced timbers from all over the world for our range of watches. In this post, we look at where each timber comes from, and what it looks like.
Red Sandalwood
Red Sandalwood grows to 8m tall with a trunk 50-150cm in diameter. It is fast growing, and reaches 5m tall in just three years.
We use red sandalwood for our Stainless Steel "Freeman Cobb" watch. The red sandalwood is used for the bezel, and also in the links on the stainless steel strap.
The colour of the red sandalwood contrasts extremely well with the glossy, 304 grade stainless steel. Using a top grade stainless steel means that the watch is shiny and looks great, as opposed to cheaper, more dull finishes.

Green Sandalwood
The height of a fully grown sandalwood tree is between 4 and 9 metres. They may live to one hundred years of age. The tree is variable in habit, usually upright to sprawling, and may intertwine with other species.
We use green sandalwood in our brown leather watch. The green sandalwood bezel and wood grain pattern on the inner dial, combine with the brown genuine leather band to give a classy, casual style.

Ebony wood
Ebony is a dense black wood, dense enough to sink in water. It is finely-textured and has a very smooth finish when polished, making it valuable as an ornamental wood. The tree is a medium-sized evergreen, reaching 20–25 m tall. The leaves are about 6–15 cm long and 3–5 cm broad. This slow growing tree is native to dry and intermediate zones.
We use Ebony wood for our gold wood watch, our leather dress watch and our black leather watch.

Maple wood
Maple trees grow to 10-45m in height. The wood is a yellowish colour and is generally a softer wood. The leaves in most species are palmate veined and lobed, with 3 to 9 (rarely to 13) veins each leading to a lobe, one of which is central or apical.
Our maple wood comes from plantations in North America. We use the maple wood for our black stainless steel watch. The contrast between the maple and the black stainless steel creates a stunning timepiece.
